The structures you can count on
Two structures turn up near spawn in almost every world. Trial Chambers were within 500 blocks of spawn in 99.5% of worlds and ruined portals in 99.6%. Both can generate in almost any biome, so wherever the game places you, one is rarely far away. For a new world, that means a realistic shot at trial spawner loot and an early Nether trip without a long trek.
Villages are a different story. Only 15.3% of worlds had one within 250 blocks and 53.5% within 500 blocks. Shipwrecks, the new Abandoned Camps and trail ruins sit in the middle, and the biome-locked structures (desert pyramids, jungle temples, igloos and witch huts) are rare near spawn because their biome has to be close too.
The median distance tells the same story from another angle. It's the distance at which half of all worlds have already reached the structure.
How far is the nearest village?
A village within 100 blocks of spawn happened in just 2.1% of worlds, or about 1 in 48. The most common outcome is a village between 300 and 600 blocks away, and 8.7% of worlds had no village at all within 1,000 blocks of spawn.
Plains villages were the most common type, making up 50.8% of the nearest villages (Meadow villages use the plains style and are counted with them). 1.9% of nearest villages were zombie villages, close to the 1 in 50 chance the game rolls for each village.
Where you spawn
Spawn biomes are dominated by forest and plains, which together made up 37.8% of spawns. The game prefers to place you somewhere with trees and solid ground close to the world origin, and in 65.4% of worlds spawn was within 64 blocks of 0, 0. We saw 43 different spawn biomes in total.
The rare biomes
The new Dappled Forest was within 600 blocks of spawn in 15.9% of worlds, close to Cherry Grove at 18.3%. The Pale Garden, home of the creaking, showed up in 10.7%, and Mushroom Fields were the rarest biome we tracked, at 1.9%, because they only generate far out at sea.
Biome variety near spawn is high. The median world had 14 different surface biomes within 600 blocks, and the most varied world in the sample had 30.
The road to the End
Strongholds are placed in rings around the world origin, and the first ring starts well away from spawn. The nearest stronghold was a median 1,660 blocks from spawn, with 80% of worlds between 1,390 and 2,085 blocks. The closest in our sample was 156 blocks away, in a world where spawn landed 1,244 blocks from 0, 0, right beside the ring.
How often do you get a perfect start?
We also checked combinations. A village, a ruined portal and Trial Chambers all within 500 blocks of spawn happened in 53.0% of worlds. A village and an Abandoned Camp both within 250 blocks was much rarer at 2.4%. At the other end, 22.3% of worlds had no village, camp, Trial Chambers or ruined portal within 250 blocks at all.
If you want one of the rare starts without rolling dozens of worlds, our list of 30 checked Minecraft seeds for Java 26.3 comes from the same kind of scan.
How we did it
We generated 50,000 random 64-bit seeds and ran each one through cubiomes, the open source C library that reproduces Minecraft's world generation. We used the fork maintained by the SeedMapper project, which supports Java Edition 26.3 with the Dappled Forest and Abandoned Camps.
- Spawn: the predicted spawn point and the biome at the surface there.
- Structures: for 14 structure types, the nearest one within 1,000 blocks of spawn (1,600 for Ancient Cities and Woodland Mansions). Each one passed the library's biome and terrain checks.
- Villages: the type and the zombie village roll for the nearest village.
- Strongholds: the nearest of the first ring.
- Biomes: surface biomes sampled every 32 blocks within 600 blocks of spawn.
These are predictions from the generator, not playthroughs. In rare cases terrain stops a structure from appearing, and spawn can settle a few blocks from the predicted point. We checked a sample of seeds against an independent seed map, where spawn points, village positions and village types matched.

For press
Summary. Playqub generated 50,000 random Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 worlds and measured what lies around each spawn point. Trial Chambers (99.5%) and ruined portals (99.6%) are almost always within 500 blocks of spawn. Only 15.3% of worlds have a village within 250 blocks. The new Dappled Forest is within 600 blocks of spawn in 15.9% of worlds, and the nearest stronghold is a median 1,660 blocks away.

Questions
How likely is a village near spawn in Minecraft?
In our sample of 50,000 Java 26.3 worlds, 15.3% had a village within 250 blocks of spawn and 53.5% within 500 blocks. The median distance to the nearest village was 472 blocks.
Which structure is easiest to find near spawn?
Ruined portals and Trial Chambers. 99.6% of worlds had a ruined portal within 500 blocks of spawn and 99.5% had Trial Chambers, the two most reliable structures in the study.
How far away is the nearest stronghold?
Strongholds generate in rings around the world origin, so the nearest one is always some way out. In our sample the median distance from spawn was 1,660 blocks, and 80% of worlds fell between 1,390 and 2,085 blocks.
How rare is the Dappled Forest?
0.8% of worlds spawned inside a Dappled Forest, and 15.9% had one within 600 blocks of spawn. Mojang describes it as a biome found near cold biomes.
Do these numbers apply to Bedrock Edition?
No. The study covers Java Edition 26.3 only. Bedrock generates structures differently, so the same seed gives a different world on Bedrock.
